You need back cushioning or support
If you prefer a more relaxed, cushion-free look, Frontgate’s Isola collection stands out for its elevated take on classic outdoor wicker. Like much of the brand’s furniture, the set feels premium without veering overly formal, striking a balance between polished and approachable. The combination of wide-weave synthetic wicker and teak lends the collection a breezy, coastal feel, while also helping it withstand humidity, rain and long stretches outdoors with minimal upkeep. The wicker itself is breathable and quick-drying, giving the set a lighter, resort-inspired appearance compared to denser woven styles. The deep seating and low-profile silhouette make this an especially strong option for lounging, though shorter users may want to add a few throw pillows for additional back support. Its pared-back design also makes it easy to personalize with patterned textiles or accent cushions.

You want a quicker assembly process
You have a tall frame (the seats here are a bit short)
For a patio set that prioritizes durability without sacrificing comfort, Polywood’s deep-seat collection is one of the strongest options we tested. The four-piece setup—which includes two lounge chairs, a loveseat and a coordinating coffee table—works equally well for casual morning coffee or larger outdoor gatherings. Thick, quick-drying cushions upholstered in performance fabric give the seating a plush, supportive feel while remaining practical for everyday outdoor use. The real differentiator, however, is Polywood’s signature lumber. Made from recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the material is engineered to resist moisture, salt, fading and warping over time. Multiple outdoor furniture experts we spoke with highlighted HDPE as one of the most durable and low-maintenance materials currently used in patio furniture, particularly for climates with fluctuating weather conditions. Unlike traditional wood, it won’t splinter, crack or require regular refinishing, making it an especially practical long-term investment.

You want cushions that require minimal upkeep
One of this set’s biggest advantages is its flexibility. Designed to seat four, the pieces can be configured either as an L-shaped sectional or separated into individual seating arrangements depending on your space and entertaining needs. That modularity makes it especially practical for patios that serve multiple functions throughout the season, and the natural wood finish gives the collection an elevated look that feels lighter and more refined than bulkier wicker alternatives, while still holding up well outdoors. The foam-filled cushions, meanwhile, strike a comfortable middle ground between supportive and casual, and reviewers note that the polyester covers are relatively easy to wipe clean after spills or everyday use. A generously sized square coffee table anchors the set and provides enough room for drinks, snacks or outdoor meals. While the Cream option offers a more classic, neutral look, the Blue and Green cushion choices add a brighter, more playful feel to the overall design.

You’re on a tight budget
Made of all-weather synthetic wicker sourced from recycled materials, this L-shaped sofa from West Elm topped our list of the best outdoor sectionals. Unlike natural wicker, which can fade and crack over time in sunny climates, all-weather wicker is durable and resists wear from the elements. Still, it retains the woven aesthetic that reviewers note lends it an upscale yet inviting look.
This laid-back sofa is also equipped with wide arms that hold snack plates and drinks with ease, and its deep, low-slung seating, combined with foam-and-fiber-filled cushions, makes it especially comfortable for lounging. The cushions are also resistant to mold and mildew, but since they only come in a light Alabaster shade, keep in mind that they’ll take a bit of extra maintenance to keep looking fresh.
A Modern, Quick-Assembly Sectional For Compact Spaces

You’re looking for a wide range of color options
Burrow’s three-piece outdoor sectional stands out for its streamlined footprint and unusually user-friendly setup process. Unlike many bulkier patio sectionals, the slim powder-coated steel frame feels visually lighter and takes up less physical space, making it a particularly smart choice for balconies, smaller patios or urban outdoor areas.
The modular design is another major advantage. Burrow’s signature U-clip system allows the pieces to connect securely without tools, so assembly is notably less cumbersome than with many outdoor furniture sets. The configuration can also be rearranged depending on your layout, and the lightweight construction makes the sectional easier to move or store during colder months.
Performance-minded materials further add to its appeal. The quick-dry foam cushions and stain-resistant performance fabric covers are designed to handle rain, spills and prolonged sun exposure with minimal upkeep. Reviewers frequently note how quickly the cushions dry after storms, which makes the set especially practical for climates with frequent summer rain. The main limitation is customization: The sectional is currently only available in a single neutral Shale colorway, so shoppers looking for bolder hues or more personalization may prefer other options.

Outer’s modular aluminum seating collection distinguishes itself with an unusually thoughtful, maintenance-focused design. The powder-coated aluminum frame keeps the setup lightweight and easy to rearrange, while still offering the durability and corrosion resistance expected from higher-end outdoor furniture. Combined with deep foam cushions and a modular layout, the collection feels particularly well suited to patios designed for extended lounging and entertaining. What truly sets the collection apart, however, are Outer’s proprietary materials and protective features. The built-in OuterShell covers—integrated directly into the furniture—can be pulled over the cushions when not in use, helping shield them from rain, debris and sun exposure without the need for separate furniture covers. The covers also feature handles and Velcro fastenings, making them easier to manage and transport than traditional outdoor covers.

A modern take on the Adirondack chair, this pick from Polywood is equal parts durable and design-forward. “We have tried a lot of patio furniture, but none held up as well and look brand-new quite the way this set of four Polywood Adirondack chairs do,” says deputy editor Rose Gordon Sala. “They sit outside uncovered through snowstorms and all sorts of weather and just need a quick wipe down to restore them for summer.”
Despite the sharp angles, Sala says these chairs are comfortable and roomy. The wide, flat armrests are another highlight—they’re perfect for holding drinks and snacks. These chairs come in over a dozen hues, ranging from neutrals like Black and Sand to brighter shades like of Lime and Tangerine.

This patio chair—part of the Takumi Collection by Raymour & Flanigan—combines several features rarely found together in outdoor seating: a recliner function, swivel-and-glide base and generously padded cushions. The result feels notably more lounge-oriented than a standard patio chair, making it especially well suited to longer outdoor hangs, whether that’s reading, watching movies outside or simply relaxing on the patio. “The soft foam cushioning makes this chair stand out for its supreme comfort—something that’s not always achieved in an outdoor space,” says Forbes Vetted home and kitchen editor Monica Petrucci.
Despite its softer, more relaxed feel, the chair still prioritizes durability. The woven synthetic wicker exterior is supported by a powder-coated aluminum frame, while the solution-dyed polyester cushion fabric is engineered to better resist fading and weather exposure over time. One particularly thoughtful detail is the integrated waterproof furniture cover, which stores discreetly inside a zippered compartment behind the backrest. “It tucks away behind the chair, keeping it out of sight but easy to access when weather moves in,” Petrucci notes.

How We Chose The Best Patio Furniture
To determine the best patio furniture of 2026, our home and kitchen editorial team evaluated bestselling, highly rated pieces from trusted outdoor furniture brands, including Polywood, Frontgate, Article and West Elm.
We prioritized sets and seating that balance durability, comfort and design, with an emphasis on materials and construction that hold up well outdoors over time.
We consulted three outdoor furniture experts for their top considerations when shopping for patio pieces, as well as their answers to frequently asked questions. Additionally, we tapped members of our team for their firsthand patio furniture recommendations. These tested favorites include the Polywood Grant Park Modern Adirondack Chair and the Article Svelti Dining Chair
Because outdoor furniture is a significant investment, we also prioritized products with consistently strong customer feedback, focusing on pieces with high average ratings and positive long-term reviews related to comfort, durability and ease of maintenance.
What To Look For In Patio Furniture
Finding the right patio furniture for your home depends on your space and budget. Here’s what to keep in mind while shopping.
Materials
“You want to ensure your outdoor furniture is weather-resistant, durable and low maintenance,” says Elise Nicpon, an outdoor furniture expert and the director of customer experience with Room & Board, and materials play a big part in that. Here’s a breakdown of the most popular materials you’ll see in patio furniture:
Steel: Steel is strong and dense, which means patio furniture made out of this metal will hold up to heavy weights and strong winds. If you’re concerned about corrosion, opt for stainless steel, which is resistant to rust.
Aluminum: Aluminum furniture is easy to maintain, since it naturally resists moisture and rust. It also weighs less than steel, which can be convenient when it comes to moving your patio furniture around; however, it may not stand up to powerful winds.
Iron: Todd Proctor, sales and service manager of Leisure Living (owned by Christy Sports), adds that iron or wrought-iron patio furniture is another worthy option if you live in low-humidity, high-wind climates. However, he warns that “no matter how well iron furniture is painted, and no matter how well you clean and dry this furniture, it is guaranteed to rust” in wet climates.
Wood: Both Proctor and Milly McEwan, product and design manager at Australian furniture company RJ Living, say teak is one of the most durable types of lumber. Says McEwan, “Teak is a dense hardwood that has natural oils that protect it from moisture, insects and decay—meaning it will survive for years without much maintenance.” Poly lumber is a type of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that gives you the warm, welcoming look of wood furniture without the added maintenance.
Wicker: If you prefer the woven look of wicker, Proctor says it’s important to choose a high-quality product; you should also steer clear of it altogether if you live in a very sunny area. He says that most brands have replaced natural wicker with synthetic HDPE, which lasts longer than its natural counterpart, doesn’t need to be painted and is environmentally friendly.
Thermally modified ash: Nicpon says thermally modified ash is one of the most non-porous, durable and sustainable furniture materials out there. She tells us, “Thermally modified ash, a weather-resistant material that ages to a beautiful silver-gray color, comes from a combination of sustainably managed U.S. forests and fallen urban ash trees.”
If you live in a very sunny area, we recommend teak, thermally modified ash or high-quality synthetic wicker. Avoid cheaper wicker furniture or uncoated iron options; according to Proctor, the former will fail in as little as one year in consistent direct sunlight and the iron might become too hot to comfortably sit in. Aluminum and iron patio furniture, as well as HDPE, excel in windy climates since they tend be heavier; the latter is great for people who want a wooden look but also something that is weatherproof, more solidly constructed and low maintenance.
Maintenance
While you have to clean your patio furniture more often than your indoor pieces, you can choose a material that matches the level of maintenance you prefer. Teak—which is non-porous and has natural oils to help protect it from moisture, insects and rot—doesn’t require much maintenance. Rust-resistant aluminum and resin wicker are also easy to maintain: Both can be wiped or hosed down, according to McEwan. Another good option if you don’t mind synthetic materials is HDPE or poly lumber; since it’s colored all the way through, it won’t need to be touched up if it gets scratched, Proctor says.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Pieces made of teak or aluminum are typically the most durable and last the longest. Note that some hard-wearing wood furniture, like teak and ipe, will turn a silver-gray within the year when left in the sun; keeping it in a covered space with little-to-no direct sunlight might help prevent this, Proctor says.
We recommend waiting to make big purchases during certain holiday weekends to maximize your savings: Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Black Friday are all excellent times to score deals on patio furniture. Otherwise, early spring is an opportune time to shop, as many furniture brands release new styles in advance of warmer weather.
There are several top brands that make high-quality patio furniture. Our top pick comes from Polywood—its Lakeside Collection is made from durable, weather-resistant HDPE. Other reputable brands that offer excellent outdoor furniture include West Elm, Pottery Barn and Frontgate.
Teak, aluminum and HDPE furniture are the most weather-resistant and most conducive to leaving outside; these materials are durable enough to withstand heat and the occasional shower. If you live someplace that gets a lot of seasonal rain or snow, however, consider using a fabric cover or bringing your furniture indoors during long periods of inclement weather.
