Perhaps one of the most recognizable kitchen appliances, the iconic KitchenAid stand mixer has long been known for its timeless and consistent design. But for the first time since 1955, the classic tilt-head model recently got a notable upgrade, in the form of the new . This design offers several features that enhance its use, including more precise speed controls, upgraded accessories and a built-in LED bowl light.
I tried this model ahead of its March 30 launch, testing its new features to see how it compares to the original Artisan Stand Mixer, which we named the best stand mixer overall; I’ve been using in my own kitchen for years. I found that the new features deliver a more streamlined experience when it comes to precision and control, making it a worthy upgrade for serious bakers.
Features
More precise speed control is the highlight of this new model. It starts with the half-speed folding setting, designed for more delicate baking tasks where you want to avoid over-mixing or splashing. There are 11 total speed options to choose from; and when it’s set to Precision Mode, you can glide from low to high settings smoothly to achieve the sweet spot for your recipe.
The other standout feature is the integrated LED bowl light, which helps bakers monitor ingredient integration and batter texture more precisely. This automatically turns on when the mixer is in use and will shut off on its own when the tilt-head is lifted (or after five minutes without use).
I loved this feature most during testing; it helped me keep an eye on how well dry ingredients were incorporated, as well as whether creamed butter and fluffy egg whites had achieved the appropriate texture.
Accessories
Included accessories also get an upgrade with this new model. All pieces are made from stainless steel and are dishwasher-safe, and the bowl is designed with a new brushed finish, lightweight build and refined ergonomic handle.
In addition to the standard flat beater, dough hook and wire whip accessories, this stand mixer also comes with a Double Flex Edge Beater. It’s equipped with silicone edges surrounding the beater to touch the bowl as it turns, eliminating the need for manual scraping as you mix.
Colors
Just like previous iterations of the KitchenAid stand mixer, this model comes in a spectrum of color options, including Sun Dried Tomato, Iron Ore Bronze and Feather Pink. There are also few exclusive colors available only through Crate & Barrel and KitchenAid, including Oat (what I tested), Mint Julep and Blue Steel. With 14 options in total, it comes in a range of finishes, from shiny and matte to a textured look.
How It Compares To The Original Artisan Series Stand Mixer
This model is very similar to its predecessor in overall design, power and functionality; it offers the same capacity and accessory compatibility with only slightly higher wattage (350 compared to 325). The differences are mostly small nuances, including speed precision, ingredient visibility and quality of attachments, but they make a noticeable impact. It’s certainly an upgrade from its predecessor—and ideal for regular bakers who could benefit from even more convenience in the kitchen.
