The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid balances the three things sleepers seek most in a hybrid mattress: comfort, support and cooling. Where some beds make you choose between one of these qualities, the Sapira Chill delivers on all three, making it one of the most versatile and accommodating options we tested.
Ideal For Side, Back And Stomach Sleepers
While the Sapira comes in three firmness levels, we still find the ‘medium-firm’ option accommodates the widest range of sleepers, including all three primary sleep positions. Seven of our testers tried the medium-firm model; they scored it a 9 out of 10 for back and stomach sleeping and an 8 out of 10 for side sleeping. Checks Boxes For Hot Sleepers And Couples, Too
We consider most hybrid mattresses to be a good choice for hot sleepers, as the coil base allows for more breathability than other types, but the Sapira comes with a few additional cooling upgrades. One of these is a cool-to-the-touch cover, which senior mattress and sleep editor Bridget Chapman says helped her and her husband maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night. “It doesn’t trap heat beneath your body,” Chapman says.
Another plus for couples, the Sapira Chill scored an 8 out of 10 in our motion isolation tests, meaning it does a good job at limiting the movement you feel from a restless partner or pet. Why We Named It Most Comfortable
The Helix Midnight Luxe earned high marks for comfort from nearly all of our testers, likely thanks to its medium-firm feel and thick, quilted pillow top. As a result, it earned an 8 out of 10 in our edge support tests. “As someone who is often pushed to the edge of my bed by my two dogs taking up lots of space, edge support is really important to me. It feels like I could comfortably sleep in any position near the edge of this bed and not feel like I’m falling off,” says managing editor Emmy Favilla. A Balanced Feel That’s Especially Appealing To Back Sleepers

The Signature held up during our long-term tests, too. Dillon slept on this mattress for over a month and found it offers the same lasting comfort and support as more premium mattresses.

Why We Named It Best For Switching Between Back And Side
Not many hybrid mattresses can suit each sleeping position as nicely and comfortably as the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid. Its thick stack of memory foam comfort layers coupled with its quilted Euro Top provide plenty of pressure relief and support for both side and back sleepers. The Best Balance Of Support And Pressure Relief
All six of our testers found the Premier Hybrid’s medium-firm feel provided great support and cushioning along their back and sides. Jaffe says, “I enjoy back sleeping on this mattress. Why We Named It Best For Side Sleepers
Among the dozens of mattresses we tested, the Nolah Evolution 15 Mattress showed it has superior cushion and pressure relief for side sleepers of various body sizes. This is largely due to its five foam comfort layers—most hybrid mattresses only feature two to three comfort layers tops—which provide exceptional pressure relief.
Able To Accommodate All Body Types
A wide variety of side sleepers found the Evolution equal parts supportive and comfortable: The ‘luxury firm’ model scored an 8.5 out of 10 for comfort with both average- and heavyweight testers.
That said, we recommend lightweight side sleepers or those who prefer a softer feel choose the plush model. Chapman (a lightweight sleeper) tested the plush version in her home for over a month and says, “The pressure relief has been fantastic for me as a side sleeper.” She continues, “It’s difficult to find a mattress that doesn’t cause at least some discomfort around my shoulder after lying on it for a while, but I haven’t felt that at all with this one.”

Why We Named It Best For Heavyweight Sleepers
The WinkBed Plus is easily one of the most durable and supportive mattresses we tested, with a higher-than-average weight capacity of 900 pounds. However, its extra-sturdy feel doesn’t exclude it from working well for other body types: Simpson is in the lightweight class and says, “My spine doesn’t feel out of alignment, and I don’t feel my hips sinking. [It] feels like an ideal mattress for back sleepers.”

We tested all three firmness levels of the Saatva Classic and each of them scored highly in our support and pressure relief tests. Although several mattresses on this list could work for couples, the Bear Elite strikes the best balance of support and comfort while excelling at features that matter most for couples, such as cooling, motion isolation and edge support.
A Great In-Between For Different Sleep Styles
Its construction doesn’t look much different than the other hybrid beds on this list; however, the feeling of the materials produced a uniquely soft, yet supportive sensation for our testers. Garrett says, “This bed feels really nice while side sleeping,” while Favilla adds “This is perhaps the comfiest bed yet for back sleeping for me. Exceptional Performance In Key Areas For Couples
Comfort aside, the Elite Hybrid scored highly in our edge support and motion isolation tests, two important features for any sleeper—but especially couples. A tester weighing over 250 pounds scored its edge support a 9 out of 10, and says he feels no sloping while lying on the edge. And while the Bear does feel cooling, it’s not the most breathable mattress we tested; if you’re both hot sleepers, the is a better choice.
Why We Named It Best Cooling
The Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress from Brooklyn Bedding lives up to its name as one of our editors’ and testers’ favorite beds for hot sleepers, with multiple cooling aspects throughout to help regulate temperature. Most hybrid beds have one to two active cooling features; the Aurora has seven: a cool-to-the-touch cover, copper and gel-infused foams and a breathable coil base.
Significantly Cooler Than Other Mattresses We Tested
Five people tested the ‘firm’ mattress model with the optional pillow top added, noting it felt noticeably cooler than the others, thanks to its cool-to-the-touch cover. In addition to our group testing, Chapman tested the medium mattress model with the pillow top at home for over a year, and says, “I found the bed nicely regulated my body temperature and kept heat from getting trapped. The most premium mattress within the brand’s Restore collection, the RestorePremier Hybrid possessed a uniquely weightless sensation that our testers didn’t find with any other mattress. In other words, the Purple’s combination of coils, foam and its hyper-polymer grid made us feel simultaneously lifted, hugged and cooled.
Ample Contouring Without Compromising Support
During testing, we found that the bed nicely contours to your curves when you lie on it. However, it doesn’t lack support. In terms of breathability, the RestorePremier Hybrid is on par with the . Because the GelFlex Grid has built-in air channels and sits on top of a breathable coil base, it has incredible airflow. “I noted absolutely no heat retention at all,” says executive editor Dave Johnson. “The mattress was cool on my skin when I climbed into bed and it stayed that way all night. The Tuft & Needle Mint Hybrid Mattress provided one of the most cushioning sensations out of all of the hybrid beds we tested. Compared to other soft mattresses that can make you feel like you’re sinking or sagging into the bed, the Mint Hybrid uses a layer of dense foam and microcoils (an additional set of 1-inch-thick springs that sit on top of the coil base) to give it a profile that’s “very dense but airy and pillowy at the same time,” says one tester, while another adds, “It feels like I’m floating.”
A Pressure-Relieving Choice For Side Sleepers
With such a soft and pressure-relieving feel, Chapman says, “This feels incredible while side sleeping. It has a soft foam feel that isn’t like quicksand but offers more of a cushioning hug. How We Tested The Best Hybrid Mattresses
To identify the best hybrid mattresses of 2026, our team undertook a rigorous, multi-stage testing process. Our sleep editors have tested over 150 hybrid mattresses throughout their careers, but for this list, we narrowed our pool down to 73 different models.
Our Testing Process
We put each mattress through a series of panel tests and ongoing long-term testing.
- A diverse panel: We recruited a panel of testers representing a variety of body types, sleeping positions and comfort preferences to ensure our findings are widely applicable.
- Three testing rounds: Our panel evaluated the mattresses during three intensive two-day-long testing sessions, allowing for direct side-by-side comparisons.
- Long-term, at-home testing: We continue to conduct long-term testing for all of our top picks. This involves testers sleeping on the mattresses at home for at least 30 nights to get a true sense of their long-term comfort and durability.
Our Evaluation Criteria
During our hands-on testing, we scored each mattress based on its performance in four key areas:
- Support: We tested for consistent support from the center of the bed to the edge. We also performed an edge support test by sitting on the side of the bed, as if bending over to tie a shoe, to check for compression.
- Pressure relief: Lying in each sleeping position, we paid close attention to how well the comfort layers contoured to major pressure points, like the shoulders and hips, and noted any discomfort.
- Motion isolation: To measure motion isolation, we performed a water glass test. We placed a full glass of water on one side of the bed and made various movements on the other, noting how much the water moved. The less it moved, the better the score.
- Ease of movement: We noted how much bounce each mattress provided and whether it was easy to switch positions. We specifically looked for any resistance or feeling of being “stuck” in the foam layers.
What To Consider When Buying A Hybrid Mattress
Hybrid mattresses aren’t one-size-fits-all. To find your ideal match, it’s important to pay attention to your personal sleep needs and preferences.
Sleep Position And Firmness
When shopping for a hybrid mattress, your preferred sleeping position dictates what firmness level to consider.
- Soft mattresses for side sleepers: Plush mattresses with cushioned comfort layers and cloud-like pillow tops minimize pressure buildup around the knees, hips and shoulders—the areas side sleepers need the most comfort.
- Medium-firm mattresses for back and combination sleepers: These sleepers need a balance of softness and support, and a medium-firm bed provides the ideal combination of these features with enough pressure relief to ease tension and ample support to keep the spine in a neutral alignment.
- Firm mattresses for stomach sleepers: This sleeping position requires the most support out of the bunch to prevent the hips from sinking into the bed—and throwing the spine out of alignment, as a result.
Support
Since hybrid mattresses contain coils, they excel at providing adequate support (as opposed to an all-foam bed, for instance). However, some hybrid mattresses are more supportive than others, depending on their firmness level, coil system and durability. The most supportive hybrid mattresses have a firmer profile and individually wrapped coils paired with at least two comfort layers. Some hybrid beds, like the , contain reinforced support systems consisting of dual-coil layers.
Pressure Relief
Hybrid beds also offer great pressure relief, thanks to their mixed-material construction. The coils help support the lumbar area, while the memory foam or latex comfort layers cradle the joints and contour high-pressure areas like the hips and shoulders. However, if you find yourself craving a more pressure-relieving bed, consider a softer hybrid mattresses, such as the or plush version of the .
Motion Isolation
Due to their spring base layer, hybrid mattresses can sometimes lack the same motion isolation abilities as a memory foam bed. However, certain hybrid mattresses—like the —also perform well in this category due to their combination of individually wrapped coils and dense, movement-absorbing foam layers. If motion isolation is a top concern (and you prefer a hybrid mattress), look for models with thick foam layers and wrapped coils, which can help limit motion transfer.
Cooling
Because of their airflow-promoting coil bases, hybrid mattresses are often more cooling than other mattress types. However, some hybrids take temperature regulation one step further by incorporating cooling covers and gel- or copper-infused foams in their constructions, which can be beneficial for hot sleepers or those who live in warmer climates. Keep in mind these additional cooling features usually total to a higher-priced mattress, but it can be worth the investment if you are a chronic hot sleeper.
